If you put two or more emoticons right next to each other without spaces, this happens:

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

This isn't a problem if you have sufficient command of the English language to not have to rely on smiley faces to convey your point. If you really have to stoop this low, however, use spaces... it's to do with the wording being contained in colons and them doubling up.
