Zombies appear in GTA IV multiplayer

An interesting article appeared on Kotaku yesterday, reporting on zombies appearing in GTA IV's multiplayer gameplay, wearing nothing but yellow underpants, sporting the R* logo of course.

There are a few comments indicating gamers have seen zombies in online play, but nothing about transforming into one yet. Theories range from getting killed by a Rockstar employee, to killing a Rockstar employee, to getting the highest ranking.

They quote the official strategy guide (I don't have it) "If you see unclothed characters, look out! Only players who have reached the max ranking of 10 and a few other "special" people get the honor of shooting in their skivvies." But this player says he's only at Level 2. The user's name in the forums is GTA. I couldn't find a PSN ID for him.

The player says he thinks he unlocked the outfit by killing a R* developer online (on the Xbox 360 you unlock an achievement for doing this, so it's possible this may be a PS3 exclusive). You can see some lovely photos of this over at Kotaku.

I think it has something to do with the 'Kill A Rockstar' peson on the achievements list. And they must be Rockstar coming early to freak us out and get us to make rediculous myths!

Someone had suggested it was when you reached level 2. I've also noticed not a single 360 user reporting it. Sucky for us.

Yeah, I'm at rank 2 (on 360) and no such unlock for me. I've never even seen a zombie in game either.

I have the zombie character/outfit unlocked... I don't think I killed a R* developer...

The only things I have done online is the multiplayer tutorial, a few races which I have never won, and a deathmatch which I won.

My guess is that its the deathmatch 1st place or the multiplayer tutorial completion. Either way as you get money online, you can unlock new outfits and such.

I will explaine how to do it. Beat the tutorial and at least 1 death match. Access character modification and press L1 to become a Zombie. You can wear a hat and sunglasses too!

Ya. I just randomly unlocked it one day. Don't know what for. I've seen a few other people who are zombies.

Press L1 when you are editing your online character. I thought everyone knew this? It's been like that for ages!

WTF?

So you're saying press L1 when viewing your character model. Others are saying complete the tutorial. Are you all taking the piss or being serious or what?

Hmm.. I'm going to try this out anyway next time I'm on.

L1 on the PS3 version. I assume your playing the 360 version. I've had it since the very start and I have played one match online...

Yeah I tried LB (L1) and it did nothing, then tried the tut... was halfway through the tutorial and accidentally left the game :P

It's too tedious for an experienced player to go through so I can't be bothered doing it again :P

There is a multiplayer tutorial you can access from your cell phone... but nobody is for sure if thats it. I suggest completing the tutorial, then completing a death match.
