The downside is that all it takes is human involvement for 3 seconds and the bot is registered and can post until they're banned. We can then IP ban them and everything else, but it isn't too complicated to bypass those measures.

I'm not talking about banning from the forum with forum tools but banning from you whole server that they just can't acces it.

We can ban individual IP addresses from the server, but its not hard to use another one. We can't ban "bots" altogether because they look and act exactly the same as web browsers. Unless they request thousands of pages a second, because we can detect and prevent that.

By the person giving them one? A bot is just an auto-program. It does the exact same thing we're doing right now, only automatically.

Are bots the things which appear one the online user list e.g. google.com , ask.com ect... what are those?

Those ARE bots, but not the ones we're talking about.

There is no "freedom of speech" in forums, yes you can say what you want but in the end what the mods say gos. This is not a democracy.

The bots we're on about are ones set up by hackers to post spam and usually links to sites. In some ways they are worse than hackers because they can work much faster and work 24/7.

That's them, and a perfect example of a good use for the report button.

You read that post, realise its spam, click report, type "i think this is a bot" and click OK. A mod reads it, deals with it, and everybody's happy. :)

Also, slightly related, DO NOT RESPOND TO THE BOT'S TOPICS.... It bumps the topics to the top, giving it more views, and they can't read your responses anyways. Report it, and leave the topic.

Uhm, a little note to te staff. Do not forget about the Posted Image button either, since this is turning into a spam fest.
Or you can lock this topic. There is a third option aswell, and that's to stop spamming.

Jace, DO NOT REPLY TO SPAM, the admins will ban the bot, just if you see something off-topic, just report it. Don't reply to that topic.
