I guess it has a wireless internet card in it because I did the "Network Setup" and it says I have an "excellent" connection, but if I try to go to a website, it won't work. Righty Posted January 8, 2006 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Run the wireless network setup wizard (I think thats what it is called) or go to my network places > view network connections (on left scroll down) and setup wireless connection. You'd have to speak to your IT guys and see if they'll let you connect, which they usually won't, because you would have access to the network and be able to do nasty things. And we do "nasty" things(not really) on the desktop we use anyways. I work at a ghetto ass cell phone company. It's just a little hole in the wall place, so I don't think we even have an IT guy... Gerard Posted January 8, 2006 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Is it possible it isn't your work's network you're picking up? If its getting an 'excellent' signal that usually means you're standing right next to the transmitter. You would need to know the password to generate the WEP key (which in itself is just a long random password), and you would need to know which type of encoding is used (64- or 128-bit etc). If it IS your network (see if its named something familiar or if you can find the router with an arial and which computer it's connected to) then SOMEONE must have set it up. Slayer Posted January 17, 2006 Share Posted January 17, 2006 I have WLAN at home and a laptop with a WLAN card. You first have to enter the right ConnectonPoint name (if it's changed) and then you have to enter a WEP key and choose the type of encryption. Otherwise you can recieve signal but you can't connect to the router. Also, make sure you have the newest drivers. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
