Tips: General Stunting Tips

Well, I'm going to update this one as I think of new things, but for now these are the ones I can come up with. I know this is pretty messy, but I'm writing this as I think of it.

Being a public stunter, you should try to build up a reputation among other stunters. And it has to be a positive reputation! If you dont have a good reputation you'll never get into a crew, you'll never get any help, you'll never get inside the "network". Knowing people is a very very very important thing! If you know the right people your road to becoming a great stunter will be much much easier. And it's not really much you have to do. Just try, as good as you can, to be nice and helpful to others. So try to get as good as a reputation as possible.

Another thing that plays a big role in your reputaion is your skin. You have to get a costum skin! And a personal as possible. So that people a picture with your skin on it, they'll think about you. If you want to become a great stunter you have to think of this. Try to "sell yourself", and think about marketing yourself. You should also get a costum bike skin, by the way..

When your making a new video use as much time on it as can. Infact, when you see that your done, use 2-3 days more on it! The first day dont watch it at all. The second day, watch it and try to keep an open mind to flaws and things like that. The rest of the second day and the third day, use alot of time corecting those flaws.

Do not fall into the trap of making one stunt video per week! As I just said, use time on your videos! Use much time! Get everything to look good! The editing, the stunts, the text, the music.. Everything!

When you've done a stunt, DO NOT record it right away! Press F2, about 5 seconds after you've succesfully landed, then press ALT + Tab and copy the replay.rep (which is located in My Documents/Gta Vice City User Files, I think). Then paste it in a new folder where you keep all of your stunt. You can also change the name of the replay.rep to something that discribes the stunt (f.ex "Bump - roof malibu"). When you've done that, go back to the folder where you saved the replay.rep and copy it over to My Documents/Gta Vice City User Files and rename it replay.rep, if you changed it before. Then go back into Vice City and press F3. You'll now see the replay.

Removing the replay text serves one more advantage, and that is that you can allways go back and record the stunt over again. So if you suddenly discover a new way to get better quality on the stunt, then you can go back and re-record it.

When recording your stunt try to get a good angle as possible, so that the stunt looks really cool!

Use the GXT Editor! Mod the replay text, flashing in the left corner of your screen when your watching a replay, away! This is really important! Cause no one wants to see it flashing in a stunt video! It's just so annyoing!

( To remove the 'Replay'-text then just open your GXT Editor and press File - Open. A browser should pop up, then go to Gta Vice City/Text and press the 'american.gxt' file. Then press open. No wait 5 sec and you should get a long list of text. Press 'R', for 'Replay', then scroll down to find where it say's "Replay". Double click the replay thingy, and just remove all text.

You can type in your name, which will result in that you can see your name blinking where it would normally say 'Replay', but this is also just annoying so I would not advice you to do this! )

Never ever steal a stunt!! Never!! If you have the honour to get a preveiw of a video, or a stunt, then you might get tempted to do that stunt and put it in your video. Well, do no do it! At least not before that person who showed you the stunt have put into his video. If you do put it into your video before the person put it into his, you'll loose all respect in the stunting world. No one will ever give you preveiws of their stunt or videos ever again. So neeeever do this. No matter who you steal it from!

The music in a stunt video is maybe the most important aspect of a stunt video. Cause if someone doesn't like the music and thinks it's boring or anything like that, he'll feel that the whole video was boring and simply bad. At least that's what usually happends to someone who isn't a professional reveiwer (lol). So take time to chose the music! I think the music should be as mainstream (at least what's mainstream in the stunting world) as possible. But if your way of stunting or editing isn't like the "stereotype" of stunting or editing, try to find music that fits to that style. You have to remember that a stunt video is sepose to be attractive to the people watching it, not the people making it. Well, that's if your going to release the video, of course. So with the finger, choose your music cearfully!

-----------

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions, about the things I've been writing about in this topic, here.

.. well, that's it for now, but I'll update it soon so please drop in ones awhile ;)

Good tips. Is skinning such an important thing in San Andreas though, what with the amount of clothes available...Also the fact the majority of us are white would mean we would all need to install the white cj mod first.

As for removing the reply text, I was actually thinking of making it say "The GTA Place" instead of Replay. Or would that still make my video crap.

I don't think you have to make the model white, just cause your that, but, of course, if you want to.. sure. But you should still mod the clothes. Cause you should really have like a "copyright" for your stunts. So that people can't take you clips out of your video and say "I did that", which someone CAN do if you have some of the default clothes. And to be honest you should really mod the color and all that on the vechiles too.

Yeah, if you change it to "The Gta Place" then it would still be blinking in the same boring font, as well as being very annoying, so I would rather just put the "The Gta Place" in a new cool font, as well as making it smaller, putting it in a new place and not let it be any distraction for the video.

Chris had the REPLAY blinking in his videos 0.o

Just use a video editing thing and do the ATS thingy, put something small where the replay is in funky font.

In San Andreas, you can have any weird outfit without modding.

You could still see the blinking in Sa Smackdown and I thought it was very annoying. Just do itand no one can complain about it. Before off that way. It onnly takes about 5 min to download and mod it so it's worth it!

Yeah you can, but people are then able to steal your stunts. Cause they can just say "That's the way my CJ looks, you stole it from me.". You must have a modded outfit, trust me! I've been stunting for awhile now, and I know what can happend. If you do not mod your outfit to something special you will regret it when someone steals your stunts and all the other people believes him and not you!

Yeah I made those vids before stunting became really popular, there were basically no innovative stunts whatsoever, just going off ramps and stuff thats really it. Also at the time I wasn't particularly good at any sort of editing so I never even thought to try and remove the replay text.

These would be great tips if I had it for PC, but i really don't intend to get it, I like to try stunts for the Playstation version just because they are fun, not serious stunting or anything like that, I would really appreciate tips for the actual stunts, not the technical side

Yes, I have written a tutorial for stunting here somewhere which is for the actually stunt. It's just this thread that's dedicated to the technical side of stunting. I'm going to release more stunting tutorial as the time goes by though. I havee written about 6 of them, just have to get some pictures of spots to execute and traine those stunts.

I look forward to seeing them

You know what's hard? Making a video using the PS2 version.

I was going to participate in the TGTAP Community Stunt Video, but everyone seemed to lose interest in that. Plus, my TV Tuner software went crazy. Maybe I'll reinstall some software later on and actually record some stunts.

Wow you can really do that, what software do you need

You need more than just software. You need a TV tuner to transmit the video to your computer. They cost about 30 dollars for a cheap one. They can run up to 150+ dollars, but usually those ones double as video cards((saving PCI slots)).

i watched everysingle on of his tutorails and it explanes alot, but the one thing i am not good aat is grabs, i do exactly what he says to do and the bike ends up hitting me in the back sending me flying like a damn bird,KAaa

I see what you mean. It think you're doing the ground grabs. So try to lean a bit (just a bit) sideways when faling so that the bike passes just near you and you can grab it without getting hit. Again, try that at different speeds. Going too fast or too slow can make a big difference. Everything has to be just great to do a good ground grab.

Here is a good tip for doing front flips in vice city.

1. the most effective jumps for flips are those cement jumps, here is a picture:

Click here to view the picture

so find one of these =)

2. ever noticed how you see in stunt videos how when someone is taking a run up in a pcj, and how it looks like

there head is bobbing very slightly and facing down? what they are doing is increasing the speed of how fast you

can go with the pjc by a great amount. if you don't know what i'm talking about, have a look in my video:

GTA Stunts: Vice City vs San Andreas Part 1

Jump to 1:38, and watch when the person on the pcj is going down the straight, the head is bobbing a bit?

You can achieve this by repeatedly pressing the button that makes you push forward as if you want to do a stoppie,

the default key is Numpad 9. tap it, don't hold it in. tap it about once every quarter to half a second, so relevantly fast but not berserk.

you will then notice a great increase in speed =) allowing you to get a hell of alot of air time.

3. so back to the front flip, find your cement jump, and make sure it has a decent run up. a perfect example would be the

rump that clears the bridge near the police station, and the run up starts from club malibu (all grass run up).

place your pcj as far s you can without allowing yourself to turn, and then start accelerating. try hitting top speed

by taking the advice i told you in step 2.

as you are closing in on the jump (around 2 to 3 meters) hold in default key numpad 9 (the stoppie key) as hard as you can, and

just before you hit the jump put as much angle left (or right). when you hit air just keeping holding in numpad 9 and left until you have

completed your front flip, now for the landing =)

4. as you start coming down, prepare to land your back wheel first. the better the timing, the better the outcome, and

its basically up to you and how you do it.

okay, so your about to hit the ground and you need to try and hit down with your back wheel first, to do this hold down

the button for which you do wheelies with (default key is numpad 6)

if you have timed this perfect, you will land perfectly =)

here is an example in my newest video (which i entered in a $100 comp) the gaps of liberty city

GTA Stunts: The Gaps of Liberty City

Jump to about 2:49, notice as i am about to land i prepare my back wheel before it hits the ground?

hope you enjoyed by tut =)

What happened to just doing stunts eh? It's like music now, it's real and then it gets commercialised and mainstream.

Whats with the music thing anyway? Because no one I know who wants to watch clips of stunts in a game likes what I like and I honestly can't edit with Metal down my ear. I usually turn all the sound in the videos I watch right down... So what should I do. I reckon if they don't like what I like then they can just turn it down. It doesn't mean I have to change my music style in videos to something I hate... Does it?
