GTA Sex Scene Controversy - Worldwide

In over 2 and half years of writing news for The GTA Place I've come across a fair amount of articles with controversial views. But never in those 2 and a half years have I come across controversy quite like this.

It has all happened after Politician's in the USA finding out about the "Hot Coffee" mod and consequently wanting the game to be sold with an Adult Only rating. The "Hot Coffee" mod unlocks secret sex scenes that Rockstar had censored in the game code. You are NOT able to view the crude sex scenes without this mod. And therefore the game cannot be sold with an AO rating in my opinion. Only through downloading this mod are you able to.

A fact that reputable companies have already got wrong:

Patrick Wildenborg wrote the code for the sex scenes - WRONG. The code was left in the script and Patrick W. simply found a way to "uncensor" it.

Patrick Wildenborg is fast becoming a household name after huge corporations such as the BBC have quoted his response to the dispute.

What is Take 2's view of things? Well, they aren't commenting, since this is a modification and "Take 2 never comments on the activities of the modder community".

The investigation is being led by the ESRB, a spokeswoman had this to say:

"The aim is to determine if there has been a violation of ESRB Rules and Regulations requiring full disclosure of pertinent content,"

And Rockstar's response? They have issued the following quote:

"We also feel confident that the investigation will uphold the original rating of the game, as the work of the mod community is beyond the scope of either publishers or the ESRB,"

I feel that this contorversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is simply another reason for politician's to attack GTA. The GTA series has always been criticised for violence and the apparent implication's this has on children being violent. And this leads me on to another point about children saying "GTA made me do it" after various acts of violence are carried out, some leading to murder.

Irresponsible children should not be allowed to play GTA, it's rated M for a reason it's not just a guideline.

What I find particularly ironic is that the sex scenes are not at all realistic, sometimes CJ is fully clothed. The characters are pixelated and the sex scenes are rather crude. In fact they are merely suggestive.

What about games like The Sims 2?

Nothing wrong with this game is there? Well you decide. The game is aimed at kids, nude skins are widely available for download and use in the game, add to this the fact you can already have a sex (it is called "WooHoo" in-game but it is an obvious representation and is suggestive just like in GTA San Andreas).

But no, nothing at all controversial about that...Even the original Sims game had nude skins available.

One example of such "adult" content for the sims is at the fansite VeryStrangeSims.com. Which has nudity, gore, and sexually suggestive content.

Please post your comments in this topic, something worthwhile too, like your thoughts and feelings on all of this.

There are a hell of a lot of news sources concerning this, if you read the follow up post I have listed tens of news sources I could find with an article related to this.

I have found that currently there are over 50 related news articles.

Due to the publicity of this mod there are hundreds of news sources, Google News would be a much better place to go to see all the articles, rather than me trying to list them all.

Everybody wants a dig at everybody elses stuff. If you dont like it, theres no need to get rid of it. If i was in government, i wouldnt ban pop music like 'Steps' or 'Westlife', tempting as it may be. Although it makes my life a misery, i know many strange people appear to enjoy it, and so i'd let it slide and have nothing to do with it. These censoring agencies and mothers who are looking for something else to campaign against dont like to play GTA - they evidently see it as cruel (to AI), evil (in VR) and giving people bad ideas (omg - guns - i would never have thought of using a gun to kill someone, i have loads and i didnt realise you could go round nick cars and kill people :o)

Cant they just leave us alone? We aren't causing any harm, just having fun. Would you rather we went out on the streets and did it for real because we cant do it nice and safely on a computer anymore. We need an outlet for testosterone! Sex isnt allowed (oh no, you'll get aids and stuff), beating people up isnt allowed (with the exception of Westlife), and now they want to stop us having a nice safe personal outlet.

You all know what happens to people when their emotions are stored and well up inside them - they burst. If you hold it in, its gotta come out sometime, and usually painfully. Like constipation. If we dont let out our desires for passion through... personal intimacy, then people go out and rape others, especially in Cheltenham. If we cant release our violent side on a keyboard, mouse or fridge door with dildos for controllers, then we have to release it elsewhere. Like the neighbours cat, or the car at the end of the street, or the newly painted wall thats begging for a can of spray paint.

Some have suggested that playing GTA games made some people kill others. Hmm, not quite true. This psychopath killed some cops, and then a passing mother blamed it on GTA. If these kids, probably 3 out of about 10 million who play GTA, cant control their feelings, and cant confine them to their bedroom, then they should be locked up. That doesnt mean they should roam free whilst an innocent-looking DVD with a vector Tenpenny on it should be locked up.

And anyway, what would increasing the legitimate age for playing SA do? Make mothers more worried about their children? Make some people have to change a digit on their fake ID? Make you have to find somebody older to buy the game for you? All its gonna do is make GTA more arkward to get. Things then spiral out of control. It becomes taboo, so even more people want it. You cant get it through high street stores anymore until you're 18 or something, so back street shops (no not the backstreet boys) end up turning loose profits, selling broken copies, selling them to people half the required age for twice the price. Make them availible to everybody, yea, thats gonna gonna help the situation.

As for the Hot Coffee mod, Rockstar did the right thing by disabling it, and effectively removing it from the game, but since it got forgotten about (its a minor thing, unimportant) it was left in the game for some h4x0r to find, like PatrickW, and turn it into a mod. Oh okay, so some kids found a way to make 'people' naked and perform thrusting actions upon one another. Oh no, the Sims doesnt do that. Oh no, Big Brother doesnt show that. They're just having another dig at something they dont like. Leave us alone, guys, and we wont shoot your cops, promise :D

Yeah. I mean peple don't get it. I'm sure they all think that Hitler, Caligula, Osama, and all other terrorists like that played GTA days on end. Yes, I have the Sims 2 and if you build a family and you marry two people they can WooHoo right away. At least in GTA you don't have a desire stat to "WooHoo" with a NPC. Man there are worse games for sex out there. Singles, Leisure Suit Larry Unrated, (THAT's an AO game), Playboy The Mansion, patches for the sims, everything. If Singles can have full-on nudity and actual body parts shown and still be rated M, so can GTA, even though GTA doesn't show anything on Carl or the girls. It is actualy more like they are making the motions and not actauly doing it in San Andreas.

The same thing that has been repeated over and over again. They are just taking a stab at GTA because they are pricks.

Xenon, I couldn't count how many times I luaghed while reading your post.
