do you have DDR or DDR2 type?

I told you guys in my previous post, DDR2.

Edit// In fact, the Kingston RAM you posted is the kind that I need. Is it good for the price?

note: not looking for a super computer, just a "jewel in the bargain bin"

lol sorry didnt notice that. ahh ok. yeah i think its a decent price. for me in aus its $54, thats to go to a shop and buy it, no shipping.

Pentium Dual-Core E2160 1.8Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 7300LE (I'm thinking of getting a better card soon; will an 8600 do the job?)

Shit, shit, and shit. Sorry but any processor with the word "Pentium" in it is garbage and the 8600 is ok...not a really great card...just spring for an ATi 4850, it can be had for around $150 USD and kicks ass.

I'm planning on swapping the Core2Duo chip from the other PC and slap it on the other one...

CPU: AMD Athlon™ X2 6400+ Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology
RAM: Corsair 2x1GB
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB

I think that should run it on full. I'm probably going to get another 2GBs of RAM early next year or something.

EDIT: My guess at the system requirements. I can see the official requirements being incredibly similar...

Minimum:

Operating system: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Higher
CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4500 / AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4400+
Video card: ATI Radeon™ X1650 / NVIDIA® GeForce 7300 GT with 256MB VRAM or higher
Memory: 1GB (1.5GB for Windows Vista)
8X speed DVD-ROM

Recommended:

Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 or Higher
CPU: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5000+ / Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8190
Video card: ATI Radeon™ HD 3650 / NVIDIA® GeForce 8600 GT with 256MB VRAM or higher
Memory: 2GB
16X speed DVD-ROM

I don't see why the recommended specs wouldn't be similar to those; remember how advanced GTA IV is compared to previous GTA games; real-time HDR lighting and reflections all the time, much higher polygon counts on the models, much more detailed textures, real-time shadows for people, vehicles, and the environment, as well as the amazing real-time physics engine.

The only problem I see with GTA Don's specs is the fact that the Intel and AMD processors are mismatched quite a bit.

It was easy when Intel processors sucked and you could easily judge, but based on the benchmarks of my current processor, you can see performance between AMD and Intel processors in 3D games. According to that, the E6600 is roughly equal to the 6000+ and the 6400+ is equal to the Q6600, although that may not hold true for GTA IV because I'm sure that not all 4 cores of that processor were being used by those games.

I changed the recommended CPU to a E8190. IIRC the 6400+ is only a dual-core. GTA IV definitely won't require a quad-core, that's just outrageous. You would presumably only need to use one or two of your cores if you're playing GTA IV...

Quad core = fad. End.

GTAIV won't require dual core, but it will be optimized to take advantage of it. It's not all about what make of processor you have either really. No point in ahving one that you had to sell your firstborn to buy if it's not backed up with other good components. I think that a rig running a 2.4 ghz dual core could run it on full with the right RAM / GFX setup.

2.4 Pentium HT, 512mb of memory, 20gb HD and 4mb Intel intergrated graphics ... wrong computer ...

My laptop has ... 8600m GT 512mb, Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz and 3gb memory.

I plan on building a desktop soon enough anyway.

Bullshit it is, the more cores the better, but it costs more and most games (even some applications) still don't take advantage of them.

IMO they should program each core to do a different task. For example if you had a quad-core processor and a game, one core would do the physics, one for the lighting/shadowing, one for rendering, and one for processing information. The graphics and sound cards would take care of the other bits.

That's a damn nice computer for a laptop, I just don't like to game on them, but you should be able to run it on there anyway.

This laptop is okay with cooling, I tend to run around 65C on the GPU with a slight OC and COD4 running at almost max settings. It works well.

But if it don't run GTA4 ... it's being sold.

Yeah, you should be able to run it on at least medium or low with that card. I do recommend you upgrade though, get a HD 4850 or something and maybe another gig of ram. 1GB isn't that much for GTA IV. CPU's not that bad though.

Yes most likely. That's a pretty decent machine you have there.

Maybe but it will be very slow. You'd have to play at pretty low settings, BULL.

Hell, you'd be lucky if you played it on the lowest settings. Vista Basic isn't exactly awesome. Intel GMA is fail as well.

Are you some sort of GTA4.tv promoter or something? You do realise they just posted Call of Duty 4 specs, verbatim, don't you. Their guess is as good as ours. I think ours is more realistic though.

Also I don't believe you have a cousin. Why would anyone at nVidia know what the requirements are?
