Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, announced today that they had reached settlement terms regarding all class-action lawsuits at the consumer level. What this means, of course, is that the settlement has not been finalized as of yet, but that several terms have been established regarding the case.

Members of the class-action settlement will be entitled to exchange any '1.0' edition of San Andreas for the edited, 2.0 version, with the 'Hot Coffee' scenes removed, or $35, IF they can provide a proof of purchase that states the game was bought before July 20, 2005.

The exact terms are as follows:

Quote

Under the terms of the settlement, class members will be able to claim benefits if they swear that they:
A. bought a copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas before July 20, 2005;
B. were offended and upset by the ability of consumers to modify and alter the game's content using the third-party Hot Coffee modification;
C. would not have bought the game had they known that consumers could modify and alter the game's content using the third-party Hot Coffee modification; and
D. would have returned the game, upon learning the game could be modified and altered, if they thought this possible.

Take-Two plans to spend between $1.025 million and $2.75 million on this settlement.

Hot Coffee, a mod for the 1.0 version of San Andreas, that made sex scenes in the game code appear after a date with one of your girlfriends, they would ask, "Would you like to come in and get some HOT COFFEE". If you clicked yes then the screen would fade to black then load, then a sex scene would appear. In other words, CJ got some action.

So why'd are Take Two only doing this now? I don't think anyone would even won't to change the game over.

Go back, change your game, get your $35 back, go buy the PC version for like $20 - if that, get the downgrader, and install the mod :P

But...unless you have some kind of thing... you're not gonna have kept your receipt from 2005... are you? I know i wouldnt.

Clarification - It was never a mod, it was in the original game all along. It was discovered only after the PC version was
released & someone made a utility to edit the save files, unlocking the content.

In the context of a video game based on being a giant felon anyone who bought the game should NOT be offended by bad
cartoon porno. Next time read the label retard. The game was CLEARLY labeled "Mature" & intended for people 17 & over.

This is why I hate lawyers.

It's ridiculous that there's this much controversy over this. No one was hurt. Let's just move on!

Wasn't there a mod, so that the people with downgraded V1 could have the script files to enable it? That's why i said 'mod'

Blood - you've got a good point, but that's not how politics work.

its been said before and i will say it again.

why in fucks name do some people find sex more horrifying and upsetting than seeing a man running around with a gun shooting the shit out of every living thing in sight?!! what kind of message is that sending out to people??? "Its perfectly fine for you to go out with a mini gun and kill everyone you see, BUT YOU CAN NOT HAVE SEX." these dumbass lawyers and video game anarchists should seriously get their priorities straight. the simple answer is, if you dont want your kid playing a game with crappy sex in it or violence, then dont fucking buy it for them. jesus christ, some people are so thick
*Imagine that there is totally amazing, photoshopped sig here*

yeah what a sig, eh

Got'cha, I never messed w/ V2. It would be a mod in V2 if you changed the script file so I'll give you that one.

Advantage of getting SA the day of release so I don't put much thought to V2.

Madlabrador - That reminds me of a pretty good rant/point Gerard made a couple months back, although I can't remember
which thread (might have been one of mine, I'll look). If he gets a moment, maybe he could remind us.

The thing is, their priorities are getting money and being an annoyance to people, it's shame cases like this are not immediatly thrown out of court.

If you think about it they have tried to ban GTA for violence but failed, so sex is a different approach. It's not like they're saying violence is good.

Compare it to 50 cents style of rapping

Thats all about murder, sex, yet nobody has kicked him from radio play.
Tell me why, so i can quietly bitch and moan
To this light, that I'm not going down!
Hang me by, the rope you tied for me!
Lift me up, while I'm still alive!

I don't like that idea, some GTA fans might try to cheat Take Two out of their money.

Why can people just shut the fuck up, and tolerate things for once

FULL POINT!!!

This case is a perfect example of what's wrong w/ the US legal system, lawyers tying up the courts w/ frivolous cases that
only benefit...LAWYERS!

Darya - Wrong forum, you need the modding forum for the GTA you're modding.

i find it all stupid! you have to download a mod to get this which means you are basically choosing to have hot coffee scenes. and it wouldn't have been long til someone made a mod of it anyway!! lol. Rockstar disabled the abillity to have hot coffee. idk why they didn't delete the whole thing but what is the point? it would have just wasted time...

plus the game is 18+

This is an ongoing headache (BS legal actions), so it should be bumped every once in a while to keep people aware
of it (new members, etc). Problems like this get fixed when enough people get pissed off & start telling their elected
representatives about it.

BTW, what happened w/ Jack(ass) Thompson's order to show cause?
