Guess you're outta luck then :/ Unless you find an online store that takes Money orders, but even then that'll take awhile. Not playing DVD's anymore... hm, I'd be willing to bet you've got a load of spyware and some viruses. Reformat ftw?

Reformat ftw? What is that? One time I was ripping a CD so I could burn it on another CD. As I was waiting for it to copy The disk exploded in the drive. I opened it and there were bits and pieces of the disk everywhere. This happened about a year ago now. Think I should take the PC apart and clean it? I'm thinkin that maybe a reason as to why it won't play DVDs anymore. Think it may have damaged something inside?

Was sarcasm, don't worry about that. And um, yeah, that probably damaged the reader thing inside there. :/ Can you put audio disks or anything else in there?

What do you mean? Do I know how? No, and even if I could I would have to buy one. Cause I don't have a computer repair shop, just on hand.

No, I'm trying to ask if DVD's are the only type of disks that won't run in the drive?

Oh, then you might want to get that fixed. Game disks = DVD storage IIRC. Someone might want to come in behind me and tell if this is right or not.

Chris82 is more the nuts & bolts guy on computers, but start w/ getting the newest set of drivers from Compaq. If you did get a virus, you might have a corrupted driver for the CD/DVD. Hopefully, you got the operating system disc when you got your computer. If you can, consider upgrading to XP Pro & download Service Pack 2 from MS website. They seem to have the bugs worked out & you get Windows Defender & Malicious software removal tool. Also look for AVG (Grisoft, free), or if you can afford, buy a good antivirus package. Some of the other guys can point you in the right direction.

You should be able to go to their website, find your model & download an EXE file for it. Put it on the desktop, open it & the rest will happen on it's own.

I noticed there was no video card listed, Can yours be upgraded? GTA3 & VC should play on your machine, but SA needs a semi-decent video card.

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's meant to be.

If not, point & laugh when it flies into a woodchipper.

I dunno how to check and see if I have a video card or not. Is there a way?

With those specs and store bought, you more than likely have onboard graphics. Which means they're integrated to the motherboard. Basically you do have a sort of graphics card.. just not in the general sense of it.

You said you got it last year, so warranty should not be an issue.

Click the START button on your desktop & look for the option RUN. Select that & type in DXDIAG. This brings up the
Direct X diagnostic tool. In a few seconds, the Diagnostic tool comes up, Select the DISPLAY tab. This will tell you what
video is installed in your machine. Once you look at this, close the tool (leave the settings alone).

Good Luck. B)

PS I still think sharks could be in GTA4! :P

Its Approx. Total Memory is 128.0 MB.

Have to wait for one of the ATI guys to check in, I've got N-vidia, but your video ram should have no problem including SA.

Start w/ trying to update the drivers. If no luck, see if you can get someone to look at the DVD drive.

Worst case, they are a simple install & prices aren't that bad. Just avoid the salesman who sold it to you in the first place.

Gotta run, later.

How do I check how much memory I have left on my PC? I really need to know because I have alot of videos. They take up a bit of room. So I need to know this so if I have to, I can free up some space.

Free Space: 42.0 GB
Capacity: 68.0 GB

Sounds good to me.

So your hard drive has room, that's good.

Do you have a second drive?
